New year 2016. Sasseta. Oil on wood, 20cm x 30cm. This is a small oil study I did of the village where we live in the Alta Val di Vara, a mountainous valley behind the famous Cinque Terre.

Hello and welcome to my blog!

I was born in London in 1977, and I now live in Italy with my Italian husband and our two children in the countryside in Liguria, near the Cinque Terre where we have a small farm and grow and sell our fresh produce in markets around Liguria.

I specialise in traditional oil painting techniques such as preparing my own canvases the traditional way and following painting techiniques used by the Great Masters while being inspired by 19th and 20th century landscape painters.  I paint both in my studio and out and about painting plein air wherever I go because its great to be painting and enjoying the world go by!  All my paintings are done from life and some finished in the studio because for me it is the most satisfying way to capture the light and the spirit of a painting.

  1. Wow Anna ! I really like your work. I find it beautiful and inspiring. I’ll be looking forward to seeing some more. My work mainly concentrates on urban landscape. I find myself incapable of grasping nature the way I would like to. I admire those who can. I’ll be gladly following your blog from now on.

    1. thanks so much julie for your kind words! It takes patience and practise, looking at things from life, mixing paint, putting it on, rubbing it out again etc etc! Im going to try and do a small painting everyday from nature as I thinks this really helps to improve the way we see things. Thanks for following! 🙂

    1. thank you for taking the time to have a look around, I have always tried to paint from life as much as possible however this is my favorite quote from Picasso:
“It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.”!! We are always on a journey when painting 🙂

    1. I am so happy to hear you have stopped by my blog! Clolour and light are probably the most important things I try and capture in a painting, there is so much to learn! Thank you Johanna! Have a good weekend! Anna
